2019 Dearborn Comics WorkshopJan 12 - Mar 2 2019
Seven artists living in the Dearborn area are creating 8-16 page autobiographical comic zines as part of our eight-week comics workshop. The artists will have the opportunity to share and sell their work at the Arab American National Museum’s (AANM’s) Second Annual Print and Book Festival this spring.
The workshop is free, and each participant recieves a $100 printing and production stipend. In addition, one artist was selected as a RAWI fellow, and is recieving a $250 grant to produce her work.
Workshop sessions are led by Palestinian graphic novelist Leila Abdelrazaq and Lebanese artist and designer Aya Krisht, in partnership with the Arab American National Museum. Sessions are held for three hours every Saturday morning at the Dearborn City Hall Artspace Lofts as part of Leila Abdelrazaq’s residency at the lofts with the AANM. Participants have access to open studio time on Saturdays following the workshop, as well as to Leila and Aya’s comics and zine library, which is housed there, as well as weekly open studio time.
