Inside the Giant Fish Comics worKshop | BROOKLYN ART BOOK FAIR

To launch the new graphic novel, Inside the Giant Fish by Rawand Issa, Maamoul Press presented a book talk and comics workshop as part of the programming at Brooklyn Art Book Fair, organized and led by Maamoul Press organizing member Soumya Dhulekar. 



In the first part of the workshop, participants read aloud excerpts of a transcribed Q&A with Rawand Issa, and looked through examples of comics, in particualr examples by artists from Maamoul Press, as inspiration. They then followed a series of prompts around ideas of home, coming of age, and environmental change, themes explored in Inside the Giant Fish; to create their own comics. The workshop concluded with a share out.

The transcribed Q&A, books excerpts, and prompts were all part of a zine that was distributed to participants at the beginning of the workshop. This allowed participants to take the information about the book as well as their own comics home.
